Want to buy directly from Japan but the online options are frustrating? We hear you loud and clear!
Yes, unfortunately, there are (currently) no local Japanese shopping platforms that offer a combination of wide range of products, high level of service, and an enjoyable and user friendly shopping experience for global customers. But not to worry, we’re here to change that and offer a world-class shopping experience for a wide range of carefully selected (modern and traditional) Japanese products. Beauty, health, food, beverages, art, crafts, apparel and more – all made in Japan.
We are now in the process of establishing Hakataten – sourcing local businesses and products, continually developing the platform, and preparing for the formalities of establishing a company in Japan.
Hakataten will be a foreign owned company. This means that a large financial investment is required by law, in addition to the standard requirements for locals who wish to establish a company. When presenting a business plan to the authorities, among other things, it is helpful to show a running website that represents the business idea (in our case it is also the source of business), which is why we’re doing a pre-launch run.
The goal is to start off with a reasonable balance that will cover operational costs and satisfy the local laws, as well as presenting the feasibility of Hakataten’s business model.
Hakataten is based in Fukuoka city (AKA Hakata), the capital of Kyushu – the beautiful southern main Island of Japan. Kyushu offers some of the best local produce in Japan. It’s especially known for its highest level of green tea and matcha.
Fun fact: Fukuoka is the birthplace of Tonkotsu Ramen (AKA Hakata Ramen), Mizutaki, and a couple of other famous Japanese dishes and sweets.
